Welcome to the 3D porfolio of Anna Thompson, encompassing everything I've worked on this semester through the 3D Effects topic. The pracs are tutorials that have given grounding to various effects that can be produced in Maya, with each prac focusing on a different effect. The projects combine all the theory from these pracs into one final render.
The website is ideally viewed in Mozilla Firefox 3, but will still be legible and even somewhat pretty in other browsers.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This website was not made to actually go online. It's more a portfolio in html format. As such, it is very image intensive and will require shitloads of loadtime if you're not prepared for it. You have been warned!
Texturing
~ Experimenting with different shaders and their effects on twisty spiral things
~ Texture mapping the Flinders logo onto different shapes
~ Creating real and fake reflections on an object, using two mirrored spheres in a simple desert scene
~ Using decals to map an 8 onto a black billiard ball
Lighting
~ Demonstrating the effects of different lights on a leather couch
~ Demonstrating different shadows on a glass coffee table
Rendering
~ Raytracing reflections and refractions on a group of Christmas baubles made of metal and glass
~ Creating cartoon-like renders of Green using the Maya vector render and toon shader options
Mental Ray
~ Experimenting with reflections using global illumination on a coloured ball and box in a scene
~ Using caustics to control the reflections on a gold ring
~ Using caustics to refract the light passing through a cocktail glass
Painting
~ Creating a custom brush and using it to paint on a 3D object
Flaming 17
~ A toy racing car modeled with nurbs and combining everything learned from the texturing, lighting, rendering and painting pracs to create the final image, rendered in Mental Ray.
Squishy
~ Featuring Purple, a lonely blobby creature who needs a friend, and Green, another blobby creature who is willing to be that friend
